Full Circle

With the way the world is today. I love to hear about moving and uplifting real life stories. I also started something (not new by any means, started as I implemented on my end) new. I wanted to give back to our community. Not all Superheroes wear a cape is what the name of this appreciation to others would be. From Medical Personnel, Fire fighters,

Policemen, Those who serve our country and the list goes on and on and I will continue to reach out and thank these fine men and women. They serve so selflessly and deserved to be thanked, they are the REAL superheroes!

With that my friend helped me with using her amazing baking skills and helped me thank the firemen at station 58. Theresa is one amazing baker and you can find out more about her goodies here.

I have an amazing uplifting story that will send chills up your spine and make you feel so good.

March 29, 2011

It was anything but your average night for Fire Station 29, they were on their fifth wake up call for the night. They were just coming back from another call when they got another call. It was a call about a passenger who was stuck under a truck. Flames were engulfing the car and Fire Station 29 was able to be there within minutes, due to just being out from a previous call.

Chris Trokey and his team of four were first the responders. Christ Trokey was able to extinguish the fire. The man was still trapped in the car, with the steering wheel and dash in his chest. More rescoures came 20 minutes later. They had to extricate him with the Jaws of life to get him out from under the truck. The gentlemen had a long recovery, he was in the hospital for 45 days, and two toes had to be amputated. Considering what it could have been that seems like a blessing to me.

Chris Trokey was the fireman who was in the back of the paramedics with the man and stayed with him until he got to the hospital. Chris had no idea who this man was until he got to the hospital, and was told the man he saved was Dr. Michael Shannon, of Sea View Pediatrics.

It wasn’t until later that night that his parents told Chris the story of Dr. Shannon. Chris was a former patient of his many years ago. When Chris was born he was premature. There was no NICU at this time. He was given a 50/50 chance at life.  Dr. Shannon worked around the clock to save this baby.

Talk about a full circle of life events unfolding. Dr. Shannon saved the life of someone who would be saving his life and the lives of many years later. Do you have chills yet?

Every year on March 29th Dr. Shannon goes to Fire Station 29. Talk about ironic, yes I said March 29th and Fire Station 29! Dr. Shannon brings dinner to the four men that saved his life. This year they decided to do something different. They all wanted to give back. So they attended a fundraiser at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. It’s a childhood charity funding research to help and find cures for children with cancer.

It goes to show the saying is true, NOT ALL SUPERHEROES WEAR A CAPE.
