They say its my birthday…..

Today is my birthday and I feel indifferent. Usually I am like a child when it comes to the countdown and I get giddy as the day approaches. I don’t feel different, I don’t look different (unfortunately), I don’t know what it is. I am not depressed about my age, yet. I am 34 years old, thats still young and I have 6 years to go before my big birthday. I have just been an emotional reck and its not even 9am yet. Every year both my mother and father call me at 2:42am (or was it 3:42am I am still delirious from the phone calls this morning) to officially welcome my birthday. I love that, that is my most priceless present I get from them every year. I will, later today get cards from my children, orchestrated by my oldest making sure I wasn’t forgotten by his two younger brothers. He is so sweet and considerate, I am most certain he will make a wonderful husband one day. I am headed to school in the next couple of hours and will do a Ferris Bueller and spend the afternoon with my mother.

I am appointee for the events that follow, I  have chosen to get a fresh squeezed juice at a juice bar and get my nails done. I think my mother was kind of disappointed with my reply. The truth – a day with my mother without distractions from the boys is the biggest gift. My father was a bit disappointed as well, when I told him I couldn’t think of anything I wanted, after he said he was headed to LA for the day and wanted to get me something nice. I told him I just want to hang out with him and my boys, order a pizza and play board games. The way my boys and father laugh when they are together melts my heart. Time, Time, Time, Time, is all I want with my parents. That is the biggest gift!
Tonight I will be indulging at my mothers for dinner and undoubtedly will need my stomach pumped. Since It’s MY BIRTHDAY (I love saying that) I choose the menu for tonight. Steak, our families to die for sautéed green beans, and salad. The boys and I went gluten free as of January 1st so my mother made green jello for my dessert, I couldn’t stop laughing when she told me. The boys will get chocolate cake, I will let them indulge on this special day. After the menu was set and I was salivating over the steak I would be eating later ( My Step Father makes one mean steak on the BBQ),  I was told she had another special surprise. Another surprise, could it be a cupcake instead of the green jello?
ARE YOU READY?
Its not a cupcake but its in the same category of my beloved dessert. She is making my ultimate favorite dish, Fruits De Mare! Move over cupcake, hello Jello! This was the best birthday surprise to wake up too! The Italian in me always loves to eat, what a way to bring in this birthday with my favorite Italian dish, my family, and maybe a cupcake, or two, or three.
Carpe diem…. well before I get all crazy I need a Starbucks with an extra shot or two!
Time to celebrate, and happy birthday to you if we happen to share the same day!
