Wafflette Cafe

Wafflette Cafe is the perfect harmony of sweet and bold. It is also the best kept secret in the OC. This is a laid back restaurant that is really sick! According to my 10 year old son. Sick is good,  YO!
Preadolescent slang aside both the food and the ambiance are Swagolicious according to my teen brother and son. My 3 year old told me it was yummy.  Frankly, the Wafflette Cafe had my 3 year old at bacon!

This is the coolest hangout EVER. I had the chance to review this place and I was thrilled as I have seen the crowds come in and had been anxious to try it myself. I have seen business men and women eating the shaved snow, families coming in for their waffle sandwiches, and, teenagers enjoying the coffee drinks and desserts. I am not sure if you ever watched SAVED BY THE BELL or  90210 however the atmosphere is like that of the Peach Pit and The Max sprinkled with a bit of sophistication. My boys just looked at me as I tried to explain everything especially the 90’s… but that is a whole OTHER blog post.
Located in the heart of Town Center this is the go to spot. The owners are so down to earth, they are the epitome of what a mom and pop shop is!!! Their daughters are so sweet as well, especially the teenager who cracked me up.
Another reason why I really dug this place was the cool artwork.  Take this for example:
I asked about this picture and learned that a local artist from the community did this – a high school student to be exact. How many storeowners do you know that would trust let alone allow a teenager to draw on their walls. Kudos to you!!! I admire the local stores who support the local community.
When I first arrived I was given a quick tour
The owner even allowed my son to make me a coffee. One of Wafflette’s signature coffees too – the appropriately named Wafflette Iced Coffee.
I know I said this coffee treat was for me however my little monster took it. YES yes I know this puts me in the running for mother of year, right? A little espresso never hurt anyone. 😛
For our first entree we sampled the Morning Platter! This is best deal right now. From 7am-10am you can get all this for $5.00. Who doesn’t love waffles, especially ones as delectable as these?
Since my drink had been hijacked by my son, I had the speciality coffee drink the, “Affogato.” This drink, which was a coffee special with ice cream in it, was so good, that I would have been satisfied with this alone. It’s really something that you’ll need to experience for yourself.  Seeing the bliss on my face, the kids knew better than to try to steal this one from me.
This is the Pulled Pork Waffle Sandwich – I am not typically a huge pulled pork fan, however this was love at first bite. The perfect harmony of light and airy with the coleslaw providing a kick in the tastebuds. It was absolutely delicious.
Next up was the Chicken Speciality Plate with Waffles and Mac & Cheese.
Sweet, bold and cheesy! Best combo ever!!! I am in love with this one and unfortunately so were my boys. In fact it sucked sharing with them.  It was like playing survival of the fittest as we fought each other for every bite.   Fortunately, the portions were HUGE so I was able to get at least four forkfuls in before they wiped the plate clean.
My baby loved this one! He wanted to try the waffle sandwich that had the “CADO” on it. He loves his avocado. All the boys had to have their OWN Turkey Club Waffle Sandwich. Seriously how do these boys scarf down so many calories and still manage to keep eating?
I love smoked salmon with capers, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers and cream cheese. So why not try it on a waffle? For sure I thought this would be ALL mine to sample. WRONG again as everyone wanted to try it.  No surprise to find that they loved this one too.
Next was dessert time! OMSG!!!! (OH MY SWEET GOODNESS) Repeat with me, “Calories don’t count on the weekends!” Say it one more time just a tad bit louder now!
I  was so “sided” as my 3 year old would say! Mentally I was doing the running man as I was salivating. I love waffles and I couldn’t wait to try the yummy desserts. The only down side is the same one I’ve shared throughout this post – that I had to share with three greedy hormonal, ravenous, vultures who don’t like to share with me. Attempting to justify their greed and gluttony, they kept asking, “Aren’t you on a diet? We are doing you a favor!”
My friends this is FRESH whipped cream with berries and I loved it on my warm waffle. Calories?  what calories? My middle son had this one since he doesn’t like the strawberry sauce on waffles. I can’t even begin to express the sweet bliss as that warm waffle touched my tongue. The flavors were robust and creamy.
The making of a love affair. This was as beautiful as it tasted. Trust me, the pictures don’t even begin to do it justice!
My three year old stood his ground with the waffle, refusing to not share with anyone. Nobody puts baby in the corner.  At least not without a waffle!
Next we got to try the Shaved Snow! Look at the boys already lined up!!
First you pick your flavors; We decided on sampling each of them. I mean if you can’t decide you should try them all right??? Oh and the shaved snow is like eating air in regards to calories, right?  Except it tastes way better.
Now its time to pick your toppings. We had the mocha, popping boba balls (mango and lychee flavors), oreos, condensed milk and strawberries. OH OH OH OH this was the best shaved snow I have EVER had!!!
The Lychee was so good with the green tea it was a great combo! If you are a newbie like me to shaved snow please don’t be afraid to ask what toppings would be commentary to your dessert.
My boys loved it!!! They couldn’t shovel it in fast enough.
My three year old was just a plain jane he wanted the vanilla snow with strawberries only.
That was until he discovered what popping boba balls were.  We had the boba on the strawberry shaved snow and for a unique buzz to your tastebuds we had the red beans on the chocolate. Yes, yes you read that correctly, red beans on shaved snow. Whats next low calorie shaved snow? Um yes.  Despite the decadence, they came in at 62-114 calories each! So you can have your snow and eat it too!!!
I am constantly telling my boys to try new foods and experiment with different variations and allow their plate to be a canvas to endless possibilities. I’d encourage you to visit the Wafflette and to do the same.   Let the flavors dance in your mouth and watch how they compliment each-other. Waffle sandwiches, yes its not quite the norm, but your tastebuds will thank you. WOW is all I can say.
I would also recommend what my family did and order a few plates for all of you to try. They have big portions and you’ll probably wind up taking some of it home, just like we did.
This is the perfect place for any occasion, from date night for a cup of coffee or dessert, to a Mom’s night out with shaved snow and an Affogato, to a pre-movie pit stop or post shopping fuel up, the Wafflette Cafe is the place to go. They have something for everyone – and not a single item is mundane or boring. Loosen up try new things and when you visit the Wafflette.   Best of all, you get a free side of genuine customer service with a smile and that good old fashioned feel as you discover what will likely become your favorite eatery.
